How to check if your Tinder date is married

1. Search public marriage records by state

Marriage records in the U.S. are held at the state or county level. Whether you can search them depends on where your date lives:

• Generally public (e.g., California, Texas, Florida, Ohio, Georgia): you can search county or statewide indexes.
• Restricted (e.g., New York, Pennsylvania): only the parties or those with a court order can access records.

2. Reverse image search their profile photos

Save their Tinder photos and run a reverse image search. If the same face appears under different names, on stock photo sites, or in news articles, the profile may be using stolen images — a common sign of a fake or married person hiding their identity.

3. Check their social media for a spouse

Look for Facebook relationship status, photos with a consistent partner, wedding rings in recent photos, or a partner tagged in posts. A sparse or brand-new social presence is itself a warning sign.

4. Ask directly — then verify

Ask whether they're married or separated. Honest people answer; dishonest people deflect. Treat the answer as a claim to verify, not a fact.

What a check cannot prove
